Hello everyone.

Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started.

Today is Wednesday, November 4th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 14:25 through 33, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 14:27.

Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

Jesus tells us of the importance of loving him even more than your family or your own life.

He does not mean you should actually be mean to your mom, dad, or siblings.

He just means Jesus needs to be number one most important friend and guide in your whole life.

He should be the first thing we rely on, think on, and turn to.

When Jesus talks about carrying a cross, he means being a follower of Jesus is not always easy, but it’s always the best thing we can choose for ourselves.

Today is the feast day of Charles Borromeo.

Born in the castle of Arona in northern Italy, Charles Borromeo studied canon and civil law.

After his uncle’s election as Pope Pius IV, Charles was granted several significant privileges.

However, his primary focus was on reform.

He played a crucial role in guiding the final season of the Council of Trent.

When he was appointed Bishop of Milan, a diocese that had been without a resident bishop for 80 years, Charles took decisive action.

He brought a fresh energy to catechesis and inspired the clergy, who were generally not very active, but showing them how to be fervent and dedicated in their preaching.

He emphasized the importance of leading by example, stating, We should walk in front, and our spiritual subjects will follow us more easily.

Charles died in 1584.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to take up our cross and follow you so we can be with you forever, and help us to lead all people in your word, even if they don’t know you or love you.

Saint Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, Scattering More Flowers.

See ya!
