Hello everyone.
Hey yo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started.
We got some feedback from our listeners, so we decided to go back to our daily Gospel readings.
Today is November 2nd, and the Gospel for today is John 6:37 through 40, and the scripture to reflect on is John 6:40.
This indeed is the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise them up on the last day.
When we used to live in New York City, we used to take the transit trains, and the stations were always super busy.
There were thousands of people a day that used the city transportation to get to workplaces, to shop, and home.
It was always uber important to hold my mom or dad’s hand, no matter how old we were.
We had to stay close and connected so we didn’t lose sight of each other and get lost in the crowd.
Just like holding my parents' hand and making sure I didn’t get lost in the big New York City crowd, Jesus holds on to you so you are safe forever.
Anyone who looks to Jesus and believes in him gets eternal life, and Jesus will raise them up on the last day, just like in today’s scripture says.
Today is All Souls Day, sometimes called the Day of the Dead.
On this day, during the month of November, the Church prays in a special way for the souls of the faithful departed, and individuals pray especially for those whom they have known and loved, because they still had attachment to sin at the time of their death.
They must undergo the spiritual purification of their souls before they are able to fully love God with their whole heart, mind, soul, and for all eternity, as they depend on us to help ease their suffering and quickly advance them to their purification so that they can join the saints in heaven.
Those in purgatory cannot pray for themselves.
This is why they are also called poor.
They rely entirely on living souls to pray and make sacrifices on their behalf.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to stay close to you so you will raise us up on the last day, and help me to have the strength to pray for all those in purgatory.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow, Scattering More Flowers.
See ya!
