Hello everyone.
Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, October 1st, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 10:2.
And he said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
You’re a grand old flag, you’re a high flying flag.
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light.
What do these songs make you think of?
The Fourth of July and American pride, because you live in America and we are American citizens.
Did you know that we have another kind of citizenship too?
The Bible talks about being citizens of heaven.
That means that our lives on this earth are temporarily a home.
We belong to God’s family and have a home ready in heaven.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.
She was born 1873 and died 1897.
She is the patron saint of missionaries and florists.
Thérèse was the littlest sister in her family, the youngest of nine children.
In school, she was often the smallest in her class.
She wondered how she could do great things for God and longed to be remembered as a saint someday.
But the saints accomplished great things and made huge sacrifices, and Thérèse was so little.
But God helped Thérèse understand what he wanted.
Even though she was little, she could surrender everything to God in a big way.
Saints and souls were every shape and size.
If the world was a garden of souls, God loved both the large roses and the tiny violets.
Saint Thérèse was not forgotten, and she took the time to remember others too.
She prayed for priests and people in need.
The book that Saint Thérèse wrote about her life of a soul has been read around the world.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for having a home for us in heaven.
We are a part of your family, and you have never forgotten about me.
Help me to remember the needs of those around me.
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow, Scattering More Flowers.
See ya!
