Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, September 10th, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 6:27.
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.
The greatest sermon Jesus ever preached shocked the people.
He told them who to love.
He said, don’t just love the easy people, but love the nasty people too.
Love your enemies.
Do good to those who hate you.
It’s easy to love your parents, right?
Or your brothers and sisters.
It’s easy to love kind and caring adults.
And it’s easy to love kids who you get along with, people who love you first, right?
But would you believe that Jesus, in that amazing sermon, said, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you?
It’s probably hard to love a bully.
There’s no easy way on how to love a bully.
If love is doing the best for an enemy, then tough love may be the right love for a bully.
A bully needs help.
Tough love may simply be going and talking to an adult about the problem.
But the main reason why one would love one’s enemy is this: we love because God first loved us.
God loves us and as we are.
God loves us so much in Jesus.
He suffered and died for us.
Then Jesus rose again from the dead, and Jesus is now with us, pouring love into us and through us by the Holy Spirit.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Vincent Ferrer.
He was born 1350 and died 1419.
He is the patron saint of builders.
Our Lord spoke to Saint Vincent Ferrer when he appeared to him as he lay ill.
Vincent’s cell was suddenly filled with a heavenly light, and he saw our Lord shining as the sun, surrounded by a multitude of angels and accompanied by Saint Dominic and Saint Francis.
Saint Vincent was only 18 when he decided to join the Order of Saint Dominic in Spain, where he was born in 1350.
In 1375, just one year after his entry in the order, he made his final profession.
When he was 28, he received the degree of Master of Theology.
He had received the gift of prophecy from our Lord about four years earlier.
He became so famous for this and for his wise sermons that people flocked to hear him from all over Spain.
Saint Vincent Ferrer carried out our Lord’s orders by preaching all over Europe, converting tens and thousands of persons, including Jews, Muslims, infidels, and heretics.
Our Lord also gave him the same gift he had given the apostles when they received the Holy Spirit.
Though he only spoke in his native Spanish, people of all tongues understood him.
Our Lord performed many other miracles through Saint Vincent, such as raising many persons back to life.
Saint Vincent taught the Jews so profoundly with his clear arguments that 25,000 Jews were converted by him.
All over Spain, Jewish synagogues were changed into Catholic churches.
Saint Vincent believed the acts of our Lord’s words, Though wicked men will oppose you, fear nothing.

Let’s pray, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to love our enemies everywhere.
And help us to always preach the gospel everywhere.
