Hello everyone.
Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, September 8th, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 1:25.
But he knew her not until she had borne a son, and he called his name Jesus.
What is your name?
My name is Elise, and my brother’s name is Miles.
My parents prayed for us and tell us that God gave them the ideas for what to name us.
And each of our names means something.
The name Elise means God’s promise, and Miles means soldier.
Both of our names have pretty special meanings, and our names make us uniquely us, just like your name does too.
If you could choose any name to be known by, what name would you choose for yourself?
I think I would just want mine to be Elise.
I like my name.
Jesus' name, Emmanuel, means God with us, the name we first knew him by.
It’s pretty cool to think that this is how we can think about him first too.
He’s always with us.
Some people think God is far away and hard to pray to.
Knowing our God is God with us can help us think different of that, don’t you think?
Spend some time today looking for the little ways he is at work.
It can be as little as something as a butterfly fluttering by, getting a good grade on a test, or something big, just like being healed of a sickness.
Today is the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as Our Blessed Mother Mary’s birthday.
It is a joyful special day that honors Mary’s birth to her parents, Saints Joachim and Saint Anne.
A child and God blessed them with Mary.
Even though she was born as a tiny ordinary baby, God chose her to have a very important job, to be the mother of Jesus.
This feast is celebrated exactly nine months after December 8th, which is the feast of the Immaculate Conception, when Mary was conceived without sin.
Be sure to say a rosary today.
Our Blessed Mother is the best intercessor with God.
Happy birthday, Blessed Mother! Let’s pray a Hail Mary today.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for our sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
