Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, August 25th, and the scripture to reflect on is Psalm 96:2.
Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.
What is the nicest thing someone has ever said to you?
Do you like it when someone compliments you, or is it hard for you to accept compliments?
Compliments are a great way for us to be reminded that we are loved and appreciated.
Did you know that when you’re praising God, it’s like you’re giving him a compliment?
When you say you are good, you are recognizing there is no evil in God.
When you are saying that God is amazing, that means that you have noticed that there is so much about him that makes you stand in awe of him.
We praise God because he is the creator of things.
He loves and protects us, and he is always faithful and always true.
Praising and singing to God should be an everyday habit.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you have a good voice or you don’t like to sing, because singing and praising God is just for him, and he cares.
God hears our praise if we sing whether in the shower or in the car, out loud or in our heads.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Joseph Calasanz.
He’s birth is unknown, but he died in the year 1648.
He is the patron saint of Catholic schools.
Joseph was born in Aragon, Spain, of noble parents, eventually ordained a diocesan priest in 1592.
He went to Rome where he cared for plague victims alongside Saint Camillus de Lellis.
In 1597, he opened the first free public school in Rome.
In homeless and abandoned children, he saw Christ.
Whatever you did for me, one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.
Other men joined Joseph in his care for children, which led to the beginning of the Piarist Order.
He died in 1648 and is the patron saint of Catholic schools.
