Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, August 6th, and we only have a couple weeks left before school starts.
To wrap up the summer, Miles and I are going to give a fun rundown of our Italy pilgrimage we took in April.
Our next stop was Assisi.
In the morning, we first went to the Basilica of Saint Clare.
It had a really pretty lookout.
Down these dark stairs below the chapel part were all of Saint Clare’s old clothes that she had sewn herself, and some of the lace that her mom had made her when she celebrated her first rites of the order she joined.
Next, we went to the Church of Saint Mary Major, which is also known as the Sanctuary of the Spoliation, where we got to see the incorrupt body of Saint Carlo Acutis.
Then we walked through super narrow streets and up and down hills to get to the Basilica of Saint Francis, where we had mass downstairs in a small chapel.
The floor was made out of cobblestones, and you could hear the birds chirping in the courtyard next door.
I think my favorite part of this day in Assisi was walking up the hills and narrow streets and talk about how amazing that it was the exact place that Saint Clare and Saint Francis once were.
Heyo! My favorite part about visiting Assisi was getting to see Carlo Acutis.
He’s one of my favorite saints because he likes techy stuff and has a passion for the Eucharist.
I like to think I am the same way.
And don’t worry, we made sure to stop for gelato.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Carlo Acutis.
He’s the patron saint of a computer programmer and the internet.
Carlo Acutis was a Catholic teenager born in 1991 in London and raised in Milan.
From a young age, he showed a deep love for the Eucharist, day of the Mass, and the Rosary.
He was also a talented computer programmer who used his skills to evangelize online.
Carlo created a website and a traveling exhibit that cataloged 187 Eucharistic miracles from around the world.
He believed the Eucharist was the highway to heaven and inspired many to grow devotion to Jesus.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Let’s pray in the words of Saint Francis.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me show your love.
To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.
And help us to remember the importance of the Eucharist, like Saint Carlo Acutis did.
Saint Carlo Acutis, pray for us.
