Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, July 16th, and for the summer weeks we have been doing the ABCs of our Catholic faith.

But since we finished that up, now we’re going to add the Catholic 1-2-3s.

Today is the number 3 for Holy Trinity, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 28-19.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Trinity is one divine person in three parts, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Trinity comes from the Latin word Trinitus, which means three-fold meaning, three parts.

Even though we might not understand the mystery of the Trinity, we can still believe that God is one God in three persons.

Not three gods, but one God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The first person of the Trinity is God the Father.

He is the source of life.

Everything we see is made of God, and he rules the universe and watches over all of us.

The second person is the Trinity is God the Son, also known as Jesus.

He came to earth to save us from our sins.

He taught us how to love each other and how to pray to God.

He rose again so we might have eternal life.

He gave us the church and the sacraments.

The third person of the Trinity is the Holy Spirit.

He lives within us and gives us the gifts so we can be better and good people.

The Holy Spirit also gives us courage, peace, and strength.

He is like a helper or friend, as Jesus told us.

He guides, protects, and loves us.

We are covering the apostles called by Jesus.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Peter the Apostle.

He is the patron saint of popes.

Simon was a fisherman.

His brother Andrew said to him, I have met Jesus.

Come and see him.

Simon loved Jesus and Jesus gave him the name Peter, which means a rock.

Jesus even picked 11 other apostles and said to them, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

He meant that he would send them to do his work of bringing people to God.

The apostles gave up their homes to follow Jesus.

One day Jesus said to them, who do you think I am?

Peter answered, you are Christ, son of God.

Our Lord was pleased and said, you are Peter, a rock, and I will build my church upon you.

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

This is the power to help people get into heaven.

After his resurrection, Jesus asked Peter three times, Peter, do you love me?

Three times Peter answered, Lord, you know I love you.

And Jesus said to him, feed my lambs, feed my sheep.

In this way Jesus made it clear that Peter was to be the first Pope.

Peter was crucified head downward in Rome because he said he was not worthy to die the same way as Jesus.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for the Trinity.

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, three persons in one.

And thank you for popes who look after us.

Saint Peter, the apostle, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya! Shh.
