Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Myles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, July 14th.

For the summer months, we have been doing the ABCs of our Catholic faith.

Since we finished that up, we’re now going to add the Catholic 1-2-3s.

Today is number one for one holy Catholic and apostolic church, and the scripture to reflect on is John 17, 21.

That they may all be one, even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

The terms one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic are four key characteristics or marks of the church, as stated in the Nicene Creed.

They describe the essential nature and mission of the church.

One, the church is united in Jesus Christ, forming the body of believers.

This unity is rooted in baptism and the Eucharist, encompassing all who are part of the family of God throughout time.

Holy, the church is made holy through the grace of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

While the church is composed of sinners, it is called to holiness and is a source of sanctification for its members.

Catholic, the church is universal, meaning it is open to all people throughout the world.

The word Catholic means universal or containing the whole.

The church possesses the fullness of faith, truth, and the sacraments, and is set out to the whole human race.

Apostolic, the church is founded on the apostles, who were chosen by Jesus and entrusted with his teachings.

The church maintains apostolic succession through bishops, who are considered successors of the apostles, ensuring the quantity of the church’s teachings and missions.

We’ll be covering the apostles called by Jesus.

Today’s saint of the day is the first apostle, St.

Andrew.

He was born 5 AD and was murdered between 60 and 70 AD.

He is a patron saint of fishermen.

One day, John the Baptist and his two disciples, one of them being Andrew, saw Jesus walk by.

John said, Behold the Lamb of God, and the two disciples followed Jesus.

They asked, Where do you live, Master?

And Jesus said, Come and see.

They stayed with Jesus that day.

Later, Andrew told his brother Peter, We have found the Messiah, and he led them to Jesus.

One day, Jesus said to Peter and Andrew, Go to a deep water and let down your nets.

Master, said Peter, we had been fishing all night but caught nothing.

But they let down their net.

The net caught so many fishes that Peter and Andrew could not pull it up.

They had to call for help.

Jesus said, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

And at once they gave up their work to follow Jesus.

Andrew preached the gospel in Greece and even in Russia and Poland.

He was put to death on the cross made in the form of an X.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for our one holy Catholic and apostolic church and for it setting a good example for us.

And help us to always follow you just like all 12 apostles did.

No matter the cost, St.

Andrew, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya.
