Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, July 3rd, and for the summer weeks, we are going to do the ABCs of our Catholic Faith and Saints.
Today is letter T for Tabernacle, and the scripture to reflect on is Exodus 25, 8.
And let them make me a sanctuary that I may dwell in their midst.
When you walk into your parish to attend Mass, do you genuflect at a little gold box?
Do you know what that gold box is called and why we genuflect to it?
That is a tabernacle, and in that tabernacle is Jesus.
Inside the tabernacle are many small pieces of the host that are kept safe.
Jesus is really present in the Eucharist, so the tabernacle, in a way, keeps him safe until your priest says the words of consecration.
The word tabernacle means dwelling place.
It has a red candle burning by it, and it’s important to be quiet, reverent, and respectful when we pass by it.
This is why we bow or genuflect and cross ourselves.
Today Saint of the Day is T.
St.
Thomas More.
He was born 1478 and died 1535.
He is the patron saint of lawyers.
Thomas More went to school in London.
He served as a page for the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Later, he studied law.
Thomas married, and he had his family lived happily, sharing their means with the poor.
After his death of his wife, Thomas remarried for the sake of his four children.
King Henry VIII made him Chancellor of England, a position second only that only had the King himself.
Thomas enforced the laws of England and saw that the poor were protected against injustice.
Once a while, Thomas was hearing Mass.
King Henry sent for him.
He did not leave until the Mass was finished but sent this message.
As soon as my audience with the King of Heaven is ended, I will at once obey the desire of my earthy king.
The tabernacle can serve as a reminder that Jesus is with us and always close to us to help us.
So why not take the time to visit him often in the tabernacle?
He is waiting there just for you.
King Henry wanted a law passed making himself head of the Church of England.
Because the Pope would not grant him a divorce from the Queen, when Thomas refused to consider such a law and resigned his position, he was arrested.
At the trial, false witnesses were called against him, and he was condemned to death.
He prayed for the King before he was beheaded.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for Jesus.
We adore him and trust in him.
And help me to make the right decisions like St.
Thomas More.
St.
Thomas More, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week, scattering more flowers.
See ya! Thank you!
