Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, May 29th, and the Gospel reading is Mark 11, 11-26, and the scripture to reflect on is Mark 11, 14.
And he said to it, May no one ever eat fruit from you again, and his disciples heard it.
Do you know what it means to have faith in God?
It means to trust God, obey God, and to focus on God.
This is not having faith for or in whatever you want.
This is not having faith in you.
This is having faith in God.
It’s not only about you.
It’s about God.
Jesus did some awesome things in his ministry while on earth.
The fig tree in today’s reading is another example of God doesn’t just want us to look like good Christians.
He wants us to show our faith by how we love and treat others and how we trust in him.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Hubert.
He was born 656 and died 727.
He’s the patron saint of hunting and hunting dogs.
The oldest son of the Duke, Hubert enjoyed a carefree life and especially loved to hunt.
The legend about him says that one good Friday, instead of going to church, he was hunting as usual, pursuing a large white stag.
Hubert was amazed when this stag turned to reveal the cross between its antlers.
At the same time, he heard a voice beckoning him to convert.
Hubert did exactly that and sought out Saint Lambert, Bishop of Mastribet, for instruction and guidance.
When Hubert’s young wife died in childbirth, he felt God’s call to study for the priesthood.
After his ordination, Bishop Lambert sent him on a pilgrimage to Rome.
While Hubert was away, the bishop was martyred for speaking against the Frankish prince who was abundant’s relationship.
The pope appointed Hubert as the new bishop.
Hubert exercised his ministry with devotion and love.
He evangelized people who had never heard of the gospel, including those in remote areas of prayer.
After Hubert’s death, he was one of the four saints known as the Holy Marshals who appeared as the ensorcers of the medieval Rhineland.
When the disciples noticed the tree had completely withered, Jesus tells them that if they have strong faith and truly believe, they can pray and literally move a mountain into an ocean.
Nothing is too big or impossible for God.
We can talk to him in prayer about our biggest fears, problems, or wishes.
This is how we have faith.
Just as God has pursued him, Hubert went from hunting game to hunting souls for Christ.
His example can inspire us to abandon any occasion with useless pursuits in order to pursue the desires of God’s heart.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to have faith in you always, no matter what.
And help me that in all my life’s pursuits we may have our sights to our ultimate goal, heaven.
Saint Hubert, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
