Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Monday, May 18th, and the gospel reading is John 16, 29-33, and the scripture to reflect on is John 16, 33.
In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.
Sometimes it can seem like the world is full of hatred.
We see examples on it on the news and sometimes even in our own neighborhoods and school.
Jesus told his disciples there will be troubles in the world, but he also told them and us to take courage because we have something more powerful than anything else, God’s love.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint John I.
His birth is unknown, but he died in the year 526.
He is a patron saint of world peace.
Saint John I was native to Tuscany, Italy during Saint John’s life.
The Catholic Church was split into West and East.
This would be a problem that happened again and again throughout history, but as the Pope, John knew he needed to do the part of the Church identified.
John wanted to end the worldwide conflict, even though he knew that he would probably have to sacrifice his life to do so.
God’s love heals and restores.
God’s love forgives.
It gives us strength and hope, no matter what we might face.
Saint John unidentifies the Church with Empire Justin, which ended hundreds of years of conflict.
Unfortunately, the ruler of Rome, Theodoric, didn’t great improve.
He captured Pope John and starved him to death in prison.
Saint John was willing to make a sacrifice for the sake of the unity in the Church.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to always remember the power of your love.
Thank you.
And help me to rely on you when I’m in the middle of a disagreement, and unite with those who disagree.
Saint John I, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
