Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, May 15th, and the Gospel reading is John 16, 20-23, and the scripture to reflect on is Psalm 47, 2-7. All you peoples clap your hands, shout to God with cries of gladness.
Sing praise to God, sing praise. When you look out a window, do you ever daydream?
Has anyone ever told you to stop daydreaming?
Of course, daydreaming when you’re not supposed to be doing something else isn’t a good idea, but at the right time, it can actually be good.
It can even be a prayer. Today’s psalm invites us to use our imaginations and do some daydreaming.
You could picture everyone in the whole world joyfully singing a song of praise to God.
Another psalm verse even invites us all of creation, mountains, streams, lakes, and oceans to join in the song of God.
Go ahead and imagine everybody singing praise to God. Today’s saint of the day, Saint Isidore the Farmer.
He was born 1070 and died 1130.
He’s the patron saint of farmers.
Isidore wasn’t an incredible scholar or priest who preached throughout the sands of people.
He was a farmer who worked on another man’s land.
Isidore lived a very simple life.
He didn’t travel much.
He spent time praying and worshiping God in the church that was near his home, and he loved and cared for the poor people who were living close by. Sometimes Isidore would have to rush to get to work after attending church or serving others.
He would even wake up earlier than he needed to so he could go to church before work.
Isidore loved being with God in prayer.
He loved God exactly where he was, and he walked humbly with his God.
Saint Isidore the Farmer loved animals and insisted that people treat animals with care. God has given us some amazing gifts, so sing praise for all he has done and will do. Saint Isidore the Farmer and Maria, his wife, lived simple lives in harmony with creation of our Creator.
They remind us that God can be found in enjoying and working in nature. Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, I praise you for all of my great gifts.
Thank you.
And help me to love exactly where I am.
Saint Isidore the Farmer, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week.
Scattering more flowers.
See ya!
