Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, May 14th, and the gospel reading is Matthew 28, 16-20.
And the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 28, 20.
Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you always to the close of the age.
Do you know how many countries are in the world?
Which country do you think is the biggest?
I’m going to guess maybe Russia.
Do you know how many different languages there are?
There’s over 7,000.
It’s crazy to think that Jesus sent the disciples to spread the good news all over the world.
Right before Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave the disciples an important task.
This was not just a job for the disciples, but for all people, even for us today.
Today is the Feast of the Ascension.
It is always celebrated on a Thursday, 40 days after Easter.
We remember the day Jesus ascended and went into heaven.
Jesus and his disciples gathered together for the last time they were together.
Jesus was taken up to heaven and disappeared into the clouds.
All of us are called to love and serve one another and to share the gospel with others.
This might be people far away who speak one of those 7,000 languages, or it might be those close to us.
There are so many ways that we can share God’s love.
We can tell people about God and we can also live it out by being kind and care for one another.
At Mass, when we say the Apostles' Creed, He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come to judge the living and the dead.
When Jesus ascended into heaven, two angels appeared to the apostles and told that Jesus will come back the same way he went up.
So lucky for us, Jesus will return again.
Even though it will be a long time, we are not alone.
Even though sometimes it may seem that we are, he is closer to us than ever.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to share your love with everyone around the world.
And thank you that you are coming, even though it might be a long time away.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow.
Scatter more flowers.
See ya!
