Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, May 12th, and the gospel reading is John 16, 5-11, and the scripture to reflect on is Psalm 138, 1.
I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart.
Before the angels, I sing your praise.
In today’s psalm, David says, I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart.
Before the angels, I sing your praises.
David isn’t just thanking God with his words.
David thanks God with his whole heart.
Everything that is in him is offering thanks to God.
God does so many things for us every day.
We usually don’t thank him for the little things, like waking up or having food, friends, and family.
But every good gift is from God, so we should thank him with our whole heart.
Today’s saint of the day is St.
Pancras.
He was born 289 and died 304.
He is the patron saint of children against headaches.
According to tradition, Pancras was born in Cyrea and went to Rome with his uncle after his parents died.
Pancras and his uncle converted to Christianity in Rome, and at the age of 14, Pancras was caught up in the Victus Persecution launched by the Emperor Diocesan.
Pancras was beheaded because he refused to deny Christ.
Pancras became a popular murderer, and devotion to him spread throughout Europe, especially in England.
St.
Augustine of Canterbury dedicated the first church he had built in England to Pancras.
It is believed that God would punish anyone who swore a false oath on the relics of St.
Pancras.
By the 13th century, it was a widespread practice to swear oaths in court on St.
Pancras' relics.
We have a special tradition on Thanksgiving Day.
Before digging into delicious turkey, corn, potatoes, dressing, and pumpkin pie, we take time to share what we are thankful for.
Some things are big and important, others are just small and fun.
Thankfulness is an expression given when we receive something from someone else.
Why wait till Thanksgiving to be thankful and being thankful with our whole hearts?
Through his martyrism, Pancras testified to his Catholic faith and provided himself a faithful witness to Jesus Christ.
The power of his example undoubtedly led many people to testify truthfully in court cases.
Because of St.
Pancras' justice continued to be served for many centuries after his death.
This remains to us to be good as they do a ripple effect that may continue after our death and influence the lives of many other people.
Our actions have effects into eternity with God’s grace inspiring people to live holy lives.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for all of our blessings.
Help us to be thankful with our whole hearts every day.
And pray for us that we always speak the truth with justice towards others.
St.
Pancras, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow.
Scatter more flowers.
See ya!
