Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, May 7th, and the Gospel reading is John 15, 9-11, and the scripture to reflect on is John 15, 9.
As the Father has loved me, so I love you.
Abide in my love.
I’m going to be a nerdy Catholic today.
Today’s reading made me think about a catechism class my mom taught me earlier this year.
There are four types of love.
First is the type of love that a mother has for her children.
My mom loves me and my brother very much.
She is protective and always cooks, grocery shops, and does our laundry, and loves to snuggle and just chill with us.
Number two is romantic.
It usually used to describe a passion between a man and woman, like when your parents show love to each other, but I learned that it isn’t always love between people.
It can be passion for sports and other things, like a hobby.
Number three is a kind of love called brotherly love.
It’s kind of love that’s shared among friends who enjoy hanging out, or you have something in common so you become better friends.
Number four is agape, God’s love.
It is greater than all kinds of love combined.
God’s love is the love that was given to us, not because we deserve it, but because it is in his nature.
He isn’t going to stop loving us because we are disobedient or honoring or stubborn.
When you do his word, you experience his love deeply.
Just listen to his words.
You will remain in his love and enjoy a relationship you have with God.
That’s all about today’s reading.
Today’s hint of the day is St.
Rose Vernini.
She was born 1656 and died 1728.
She is a patron saint of Catholic teachers.
Rose knelt in the front room of her house, repenting the prayer she had known since she was a child.
She was surrounded by other women and girls from the neighborhood.
She had known many of them since she was young.
And in a convent or a house where women devoted their lives to Jesus together, saying the name of prayers.
But God had different plans for Rose.
God loves us with a non-judging, ever-accepting love, no matter what.
It’s not based on our actions or how much we’ve done for him.
It’s a 100% a gift.
So why not live today in a little love?
Though Rose had wanted to stay in a convent, Rose left to help take care of her mother, as many of the girls didn’t know the prayers at all.
She had to do something.
She started a preschool in her town, and her amazing teaching skills made the school a success.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for your love.
Help me to live out your word in love.
And help me to listen to good teachers like St.
Rose Vernini.
St.
Rose Vernini, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
