566. Thursday, April 30, 2026

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started!

Today is Thursday, April 30th, and the Gospel reading is John 13, 16-20, and the scripture to reflect on is John 13, 17.

If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.

Let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time, a farmer set out to see the king.

As he journeyed along, he saw many people in need.

To one he gave his lunch, to another he gave his jacket, and then when he reached a crossroad, he even gave his horse and wagon to a family with a sick child.

Then he arrived at the palace.

He was hungry, cold, and tired.

But when the king’s messengers, who had traveled the same road, told the king what this man had done, the king said to him, You understand my heart.

Enter into my kingdom.

Today’s saint of the day is St.

Pius V.

He was born 1504 and died 1572.

He is a patron saint of catechists.

When he became Pope, Pius already knew that some things needed to change.

People were abandoning the Catholic Church, left the right.

Priests were abusing their powers, demanding that members of their families be given powerful roles in city and church leadership.

Priests also took large amounts of money from people who were poor.

Ultimately, Pius decided that all priests needed to be on the same page.

Maybe if everybody read the same scriptures every day, the church would grow in its faithfulness to God.

Pius published and promoted a Missal, which was a book that dedicated which prayers and songs should be used at the church’s service.

The Missal said that every priest would be using the same readings from the Bible at their services.

You might have guessed that the king in the story that I told you is supposed to be Jesus.

Jesus wants you to understand his heart too, and he wants you to enter into his kingdom to live happily ever after.

St.

Pius wanted all the priests to be on the same page.

He urged all Catholics to pray the rosary through Mary’s intercessions.

Pius V teaches us that holy life is a starting point to renew the church.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear Jesus, give me your heart for me to help others and to be with you forever.

And help me to always be a great Catholic, no matter if I have something important or not.

St.

Pius V, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
