562. Friday, April 24, 2026

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the Daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, April 24th, and the Gospel reading is John 6, 52-59, and the scripture to reflect on is John 6, 53.

So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Following Jesus isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it.

This message focuses on the choice that the disciples made to continue with Christ, then others turned away due to his tough teachings.

They knew that only Jesus had the words of eternal life, and that staying close to him was the best thing they could do.

Sometimes we might want to run away or quit when things in life or faith are difficult, but we can trust that sticking with Jesus is worth it.

He will care for us and help us always.

Today’s Saint of the Day, Saint Fidelis of Sigmaragen.

He was born 1577 and died 1622.

He is the patron saint of lawyers.

Fidelis was a friar, which means that he lived and preached in a church and served the poor.

He lived during a time of division among countries and churches.

Before Fidelis became a friar, he worked as a lawyer defending clients who could not pay well.

Amid the confusion, people who loved Jesus were often killed, but Fidelis preached about Jesus without fear, and he made many enemies for doing so.

Fidelis accepted that his faith in Jesus would likely result in death.

Jesus wants us to love and follow him.

Life is not guaranteed to be free from challenges, but we know that Jesus is always with us.

He will help us when we call upon him, so we should put our hope in him.

The fact that some people wanted him to die didn’t make him sad, it made him cheerful.

He considered it an honor to give his life and death to Jesus.

Eventually, Fidelis was killed by a group of soldiers, and as he was dying, Fidelis asked God to forgive the people who were killing him.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for always helping us with all the challenges in life.

Help us to always call upon you.

And help us to be like St.

Fidelis, who gave you his life cheerfully.

St.

Fidelis, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
