559. Tuesday, April 21, 2026

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, April 21st, and the Gospel reading is John 6, 30-35, and the scripture to reflect on is John 6, 35.

I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me will never hunger.

People did not always understand Jesus.

Sometimes they liked what he said, and sometimes they did not.

Jesus' words really shocked the crowd one day.

Jesus said that anyone who would eat his body and drink his blood would live forever.

A lot of Jesus' followers left him after he said that.

But his real friends stayed.

They knew he always told the truth.

Today’s Saint of the Day, Saint Aslam of Canterbury.

He was born 1033 and died 1109.

He is the patron saint of teachers and theologians.

Born in a wealthy family in northern Italy, Aslam was unsure of what he wanted to do.

Saint Aslam’s father wanted to be a politician, but he knew from an early age that God called him to work for the church.

At the age of 27, he entered the monastery and studied deeply and began to write important theological works.

He became an abbot and eventually an archbishop of Canterbury.

At the Last Supper, Jesus shared his own body and blood with his disciples, which we also receive in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist every Mass.

How cool is this amazing gift?

Aslam was both a scholar and a monk and lived and studied the church, so he was in good position to provide great answers to difficult questions.

Many Christians couldn’t answer questions well, so Aslam set to work to answer it with them.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for the most incredible gift, the Eucharist.

Thank you for feeding us.

And help me to always love you and to help others in need.

Saint Aslam of Canterbury, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, Scattering More Flowers.

See ya!
