549. Tuesday, April 7, 2026

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, April 7th, and the gospel reading is John 20, 11-18, and the scripture to reflect on is John 20, 18.

Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples, I have seen the Lord, and she told them that he said these things to her.

All through Lent we waited for Easter.

It’s a happy ending we all want.

Jesus is risen! Even so, the story is not over.

Our own faith journey continues.

In some ways, we live in an in-between time.

Jesus is alive, but he is not here in the same way he was during his earthly lifetime.

He completed his mission, but we continue to carry it out.

Today’s saint of the day is St.

John Baptist de La Salle.

He was born in 1651, and he died in 1719.

He is the patron saint of education of children.

John wanted every child to learn, read, and write, even if a child’s family could not pay for school.

John found ways to educate the students, whom no one else could pay attention to.

Even though John was passionate about helping students, other teachers didn’t like John’s ideas.

Teaching poor students meant sacrificing money, money that could be earned by focusing on ritual families.

John didn’t want that money, though.

He preferred teaching every child he could over having a comfortable life.

He even sold his possessions and gave the money to the poor.

Later, he created a group of teachers who dedicated themselves to poor students.

This group was called the Christian Brothers.

But while John was still alive, the group was very small.

After he died and grew, the Christian Brothers spread around the world answering the cries of the poor.

The Lord has come, but our soul still waits for him.

The fact is, God isn’t finished yet.

The good news is that we get a small idea of the glory that awaits us when we receive Jesus' body, blood, soul, and divinity in the Eucharist.

That strengthens us for the job of loving and serving the Lord while we wait.

Even today, there are 560 schools ran by the Christian Brothers all over the world.

St.

John the Baptist de La Sault always helped the poor.

Even if they didn’t have enough money to pay to go to school, he made the schools free because he cared about the poor and he wanted the good children to have good education.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for the Eucharist that makes me receive Jesus' body, blood, soul, and divinity.

And help me hear the poor and help them, just like St.

John the Baptist de La Sault did.

St.

John the Baptist de La Sault, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
