525. Thursday, March 5, 2026

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, March 5th, and the gospel reading is Luke 16, 19-31, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 16, 19-20.

There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined scrumptiously each day, and lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus covered with sores.

In Jesus' parable, a rich man enjoys the good life while Lazarus suffers at his doorstep.

At the end of their lives, Lazarus goes to heaven while the rich man suffers.

Why do you think the rich man didn’t help Lazarus?

Did he think it wasn’t his responsibility that Lazarus did something to deserve his suffering?

Or maybe he just felt that Lazarus couldn’t help himself.

Everyone needs help sometimes.

Today’s saint of the day is Blessed Aniello Solua.

She was born 1881 and died 1922.

She is a patron saint of health care workers.

Aniello was born into a large poor family in a village near Krakow, Poland.

As a child, she was often sick and unable to help with heavy work, which made her feel inadequate and useless.

She moved to Krakow when she was a teenager to begin working as a housemaid.

Aniello lived a carefree life and was not intended on her faith until her older sister Teresa died.

This event changed Aniello’s perspective and from then on, she focused on her prayer life.

She tried to enter the cloister, but her poor health and lack of money prevented her.

Who do you know who’s suffering or hurting right now?

Maybe you know someone who’s suffering right now, or maybe you accidentally hurt someone’s feelings.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to apologize.

Help them out today.

Aniello suffered great misunderstanding and physical pain during her life, but she did not focus on her own suffering.

Aniello accepted this as God’s will and continued to serve faithfully as a maid.

She took a vow of chastity, attended daily Mass, and became a third order Franciscan.

Abandoned by most friends and family, Aniello spent the last two years of her life cared for by St.

Zita Association.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help me to help others today, and to not wait.

And help me to accept the little sufferings of my daily life as you did.

St.

Aniello Salwa, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
