Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, February 26th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 7, 7-12, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 7, 7.
Ask and it will be given to you.
Seek and you will find.
Knock and the door will be opened to you.
Has there ever been something that you’ve wanted to buy and so you ask your parents to buy it for you?
Maybe it’s a new game or a book or maybe something simple like a soda or candy.
How often do they say yes?
Or maybe they say not right now.
Does it seem like they say no more often than yes?
Parents often say no because they’re trying to teach us that we can’t always get what we want.
God says that we can always ask him for things, but he isn’t talking about the newest toys.
He’s talking about what we really and truly need, even if we don’t always realize it.
And we can ask for peace, strength, and love from God, and he will always provide.
We can always turn to God and he will always be there.
That’s how amazing he is.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Paula Montel Fornes.
She was born 1799 and died 1889.
She is a patron saint of teachers.
Paula grew up in a small town near Barcelona on the coast of Spain.
The eldest of five children, she had a great love for the beloved mother.
When she was only 10, her father passed away.
She had to leave school and help her mother provide for the family.
Her experience helped her to value education for young girls.
When Paula was 30, she opened a school for girls in the town of Figueroa near the French border.
She believed that when women are not provided an education, it leads to the breakdown of the family.
Paula strove to provide a wholesome and comprehensive Christian education for the girls in her school.
Gradually, Paula felt called to God to open more schools in Spain and more women joined in her mission.
Almost 20 years after she opened her first school, Paula founded a congregation of women religious called the Daughters of Mary of the Pious Schools.
At the time of Paula’s death, there were more than 300 sisters in the congregation and 19 schools dedicated to the education of young women.
My dad jokes, but it also makes sense, and said God is not a genie.
He’s not just there to grant us wishes.
He really always wants what is best.
And sometimes we don’t know what that might be because we aren’t all knowing like God.
That’s why it’s important to keep our faith active and strong in praying to a loving God.
Paula desired to spend her life giving others the opportunities that she had not received.
Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Paula allowed God to bring good from her sufferings.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for always knowing what we need and caring for us and help us that what we’ve suffered can be a source of comfort to others who are suffering.
St.
Paula Montell Fornes, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
