Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, January 9th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 5, 12-16, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 5, 13.

And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, I will be clean, and immediately the leprosy left him.

In today’s reading, Jesus reached out and touched the man, and the man’s problem went away.

Jesus changed the man immediately.

Would you have been overjoyed?

Would you have been happy that Jesus helped you with your problem?

I know I would be! Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Adrian of Canterbury.

He was born sometime before 637 and died in 710.

He’s the patron saint of teachers, scholars, and students.

Born in Africa, Saint Adrian was serving as an abbot in Italy when he saw the new Archbishop of Canterbury appointed him abbot of the Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Canterbury.

Thanks to his leadership skills, the facility became one of the most important centers of learning.

The school attracted many astounding scholars from far and wide and produced many future bishops and archbishops.

Students reportedly learned Greek and Latin and spoke Latin as well as their own native languages.

Saint Adrian of Canterbury taught at the school for 40 years.

He died there in the year 710 and was buried in the monastery.

Several hundred years later, when reconstruction was being done, Adrian’s body was discovered in an incorrupt state.

As word spread, people flocked to his tomb, which became famous for miracles.

Today’s story shows us that if we come closer to Jesus, he comes closer to us.

There are a few things we can remember when we take time to pray.

Remember this story when you pray.

The steps are 1.

You can come to Jesus and tell him your problem.

Believe he can help you.

Jesus wants to help you and he reaches out his hand to you.

Jesus loves you so much, he changes you.

Saint Adrian spent most of his time in Canterbury not as bishop, but as abbot and teacher.

God always cares for us and already has our future figured out.

We just need to trust him.

I know sometimes that’s hard, but keep reminding yourself that life will be good.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear Jesus, thank you for caring about all of our problems and help us to believe that you can help us.

And help us to be servants of you and to help our local church or school.

Saint Adrian of Canterbury, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
