480. Thursday, December 18, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, December 18th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 1, 18-25, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 1, 20.

Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take your wife into your home.

It took courage and trust for Mary to say yes to God and become the mother of Jesus, but let’s not forget about Joseph! An angel spoke to him in a dream and told him that the baby to be born was a Savior, Emmanuel, God with us.

Imagine hearing that God wants you to take care of his own son.

Joseph could have said no, but he didn’t.

His faith in God gave him the courage to trust and take action in God’s plan.

Today’s Saint of the Day, Saint David the King.

He was born 1040 B.C.

and died 970 B.C.

He is a patron saint of ancient Israel.

Jesus' disciples knew that he was the Messiah, the Son of God, and the Savior of the world.

After Jesus returned to heaven, many people refused to believe his disciples.

The Messiah was supposed to be a great king like King David, who lived about 1,000 years before Jesus.

King David lived in a small town where Jesus was born, and people overlooked him because he was the youngest in his family.

But David believed in God, and God delivered giants into his hand.

David once shouted at the giant named Goliath, This very day the Lord will deliver you into my hand.

David defeated the giant.

Centuries later, David’s descendant Jesus would defeat all dark powers in the world.

Joseph had a lot of trust in God, something we can admire and try to live like.

When we live with trust in God, that will help us deal with stuff that we cannot understand.

Many of the Psalms in the Book of Psalms were written and sung by Saint David the King.

David was brave, and he also loved God a lot and used to write songs to sing to him.

He sinned, but he also was forgiven by God.

We too are the same way.

We love God very much, but we sin, and God forgives us in the end.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, please help me to understand you better, and help me to never give up to know and love you.

And help us to always love you, even if we sin.

Saint David the King, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
