Hello everyone! Hey-o! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the Daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, December 12th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 1, 26-38, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 1, 30. Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. When the angel told Mary not to be afraid, this wasn’t just anyone.
This was God’s own messenger telling Mary that God knew and understood what was on her mind. Mary just said the same thing Juan Diego did in 1531 when she appeared as Our Lady of Guadalupe. Do not be afraid, Mary told Juan Diego, as she was there with him.
She gently asked if there was anything that he needed. And then she asked him to build a church for her, and he did! Today’s Saint of the Day is Our Lady of Guadalupe.
She is the patron saint of Mexico. Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego on a hilltop in Mexico.
She told Juan Diego that she wants him to build a church. Our Lady of Guadalupe is recognized as Our Lady that gave birth to God.
There is a lot of similarities with Our Lady and Our Lady of Guadalupe. How has God been good in your life?
Can you be like Mary and share the goodness with someone? Maybe you know someone who is worried and afraid, and you can do their best to be with them today, just as God is always with you. We should always ask Mary for help to pray to God in heaven.
Maybe we’re alone or we’re having some difficulties with our friends or family.
Mary is there to help.
You can always ask her to pray to God to help you with those things. Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to share your goodness with everyone that I meet today, and help me to never forget that you’re always with me. And thank you for Our Lady of Guadalupe, who shows us the way to God.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen. Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
