472. Monday, December 8, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, December 8th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 1, 26-38, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 1, 28.

Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

When you have an important job, you prepare by working hard.

Doctors go to medical school.

Astronauts train for space travel.

Moms take care of babies growing inside them.

Mary was given the most important job ever, being Jesus' mom.

God prepared her in the most special way possible, by filling her with his own grace.

Did I say it the day Saint Thomas Beckett?

He was born 1118 and died 1170.

He is a patron saint of England.

Thomas wrote to battle with King Henry.

They were consent companions, even though Thomas was also a priest.

Thomas gave the king important advice, and the king listened to him.

They feasted together and traveled together.

They disagreed with each other often, but remained true friends.

Then their friendship was tested.

The king wanted Thomas to have a powerful position in the church.

Thomas knew that if he had this powerful job, he would likely have many reasons to disagree with the king.

Thomas told the king his concern, but the king said he should have the position anyway.

Everything happened like Thomas said it would.

Thomas tried everything to restore their friendship after a big disagreement, but the king was furious.

Still every time, Thomas chose God’s will over the king’s happiness.

Right from the moment Mary was born, she was filled with God’s grace.

Today we celebrate that Mary, the mother of God, is perfectly good.

Mary reminds us that everything good comes from our good God, our Father and Creator.

St.

Thomas Beckett loved hunting with hawks.

He once dove into a river to save one of his favorite hawks.

How cool is that?

We should always choose God over our friends, because God loves us very much, like a friend.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

St.

Thomas Beckett, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
