Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, December 5th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 9, 27-31, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 9, 30.
And their eyes were opened, and Jesus sternly charged them, See that no one knows it.
The bland man believed that Jesus would heal them, even though they couldn’t physically see him.
They had a lot of faith.
We too can have faith in any situation, big or small.
God doesn’t care.
We can give all of our worries and cares to God.
We can also feel at peace when he will help us with our problems and our worries.
God can do anything.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Sabbas.
He was born 439 and died 532.
He is the patron saint of Palestine, modern day Israel.
Sabbas prayed to God at all the hours of the day, and at age 18, he decided to become a monk.
The other monks were amazed that someone so young could spend so much time praying.
Often young men wanted adventures, but this young man seemed intent on giving himself to God.
Sabbas even asked to be a hermit to deepen his devotion to his prayers.
He lived alone gathering the food he could find while in the wilderness and trusting God for everything.
Many men saw Sabbas' devotion to God, and they wanted to be like him.
Even though they knew he preferred to be alone, many men gathered around him, asking him how to be more like Jesus.
Part of Sabbas' answers must have been this, pray always.
Jesus is powerful.
The reading shows that Jesus has the power to do amazing things, like heal people.
We can ask Jesus for help with anything we need, and just have faith like the blind man did.
Our faith makes us believe that Jesus will help us with anything, whether that’s when we’re sick, scared, or need help with something at school.
During his time alone, St.
Sabbas would weave baskets.
This fun hobby is another hobby to do besides praying, but we should always think of praying first and to spend more time and be like Jesus.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to always give my worries to you and to never be afraid to ask you for anything.
And help us that I will pray to you day and night just like St.
Sabbas did.
St.
Sabbas, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
