Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, December 2nd, and the scripture that we are reading today is Isaiah 11, 1-10.

And the scripture to reflect on is Isaiah 11, 6. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. I thought I would change it up a little bit and read the scripture from Isaiah, because I liked what it had to say. Have you ever wondered what Jesus was like when he was a kid?

Do you think St.

Joseph made toys for Jesus for him to play with?

When I hear about the wolf and the lamb being friends, it makes me wonder if St.

Joseph ever made little wooden animals for Jesus, like a Noah’s Ark set. Can you imagine Jesus putting the wild animals and the tame animals together?

Jesus does want to put all things together.

He wants all people and all of creation to live together in peace. Today’s saint of the day is Blessed Manuel Lonzo Gardio.

He was born August 9, 1920 and died November 3, 1971.

He is a patron saint of journalists and those devoted to the Eucharist. Manuel, nicknamed Lolo, was one of eight children.

As a teenager during the Spanish Civil War, he smuggled the Eucharist to prisoners.

In 1937, he was caught and temporarily imprisoned, an event that foreshadowed his lifelong struggle with spondylosis.

This spinal deformity caused Manuel to be discharged early from military service.

Gradually, the disease confined him to a wheelchair. Manuel was able to continue his professional work as a journalist from his room.

As his condition worsened and he lost the use of his hands, his sister Lucia became his assistant.

She set a recording machine before him and later transcribed his words.

Manuel’s nine books and numerous articles continue to inspire devotion today.

He was a man in love with the Blessed Sacrament.

Mass was celebrated in his room daily.

He acknowledged the Eucharist in his total inspiration, in together in groups of twelve. He was a monastic community to pray for a peculiar journalist or newspaper.

Manuel’s apostolate continued even after he suffered total blindness in 1962.

After 28 years in a wheelchair, he died quietly and peacefully. What are some ways that you can bring more peace into the world this Advent?

Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Advent is a time for us to talk to one another about peace.

It’s a good time to try a little harder to get along with your friends or family.

Maybe even spend some time in adoration. Manuel understood and related effectively with the world because of his connection to Jesus, the source of life in the Eucharist.

He knew immediately the joys and sorrows, the triumphs and tragedies of life, and how God’s love transforms them.

For this relation, the Church offers him as patron of journalists. Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, send us your peace and help us to make friends with everyone this Advent season.

And help us to respond generously to your unwavering love for us.

Blessed Manuel Lanzano Garido, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow with Scattering More Flowers.

See ya!
