Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, November 21st, and the gospel reading is Luke 19, 45-48, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 19, 45. Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things. I kind of got the giggles after reading today’s gospel story because my little baby cousin is in the phase that he flips everything that’s on the table, his plate, his silverware, his toys, or even his dad’s phone, and that’s not a good situation. And after he flips it, he looks at you with his mischievous eyes, and he wants you to laugh at him.
It’s so funny. Jesus, in today’s gospel, he saw that the people were trying to make money in a place meant for worshiping God.
This made Jesus angry because they were not treating others kindly and they were not keeping the holy place holy.
Jesus started flipping tables because he wanted people to realize that God’s holy church is holy. Today’s saint is the day Saint Rose Philippine, she was born in 1769 and died 1852.
She’s a patron saint of those who persevere in prayer.
Rose took a group of women across the Atlantic Ocean to serve the tribes of Native Americans living in the American frontier.
But when they arrived, the bishop, the man in charge of the churches in the area, said he had no place for them.
He sent them to a small town in the territory of Missouri where no tribes lived.
Rose couldn’t serve the way she thought she would, but she could still pray for everyone she served and worked with.
She worked hard and even built a school for girls in the area, but most of all, she prayed.
Eventually, after she retired, she got a chance to serve the tribes.
Though she couldn’t learn their language, the Native Americans knew that there was something special about her.
They named her Woman Who Prays Always. Everyone gets angry sometimes, but we can’t let our anger hurt us or others.
Instead, we treat everyone with kindness and respect.
We also remember that church is a holy place for worshiping Jesus and God. St.
Rose Philippine Duchesne dealt with many struggles, including food and water shortages, forest fires, and poor living conditions, but none of these things stopped her from serving and praying. The Academy of the Sacred Heart that she founded still has education today. Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus, help me to see your holiness today and always. St.
Rose Philippine Duchesne prayed always for everyone.
Help me to do the same.
St.
Rose Philippine Duchesne pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
