448. Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, November 18th, and the gospel reading is Luke 19, 1-10.

And the scripture to reflect on is Luke 19, 6.

And Zacchaeus came down quickly and received him with joy.

I’ve never seen a theme in the readings lately, have you?

In today’s reading, people could not believe that Jesus would go to a home of a man like Zacchaeus.

Jesus changed Zacchaeus.

That’s the theme I’ve noticed.

He knew everything Zacchaeus has ever done.

When Zacchaeus met Jesus, his life was changed.

It doesn’t matter if you’re short or tall.

Jesus knows your name too, and Jesus knows everything about you.

He loves you, even when you aren’t perfect.

Today’s saint of the day, St.

Odo of Cluny.

He was born 878 and died 942.

He is a patron saint of rain.

As a young monk, Odo lived at the monastery attached to the Basilica of St.

Martin in Tours, France.

It was a popular pilgrimage site, and the monks received many gifts from wealthy patrons.

The monks had grown accustomed to enjoying fine foods and luxurious clothing, but some of them even stopped attending prayers.

Reading through the rule of St.

Benedict, Odo knew that something had to be done.

These monks weren’t following the rule at all.

Brother Odo sought out another Benedictine who wished to reform the order.

He joined a holy abbot named Brenno, who would also become a saint.

At a new abbey, the Abbey of Cluny, after St.

Brenno died, Odo became a new abbot.

He and some other early abbots of Cluny helped initiate a widespread reform of the entire Benedictine order.

Yesterday we read about the blind man who did everything he could to speak with Jesus, and today all Zacchaeus wants is a glimpse of Jesus.

He’s too short to see over the crowd, so he climbs a tree to get a better view.

Zacchaeus is amazed to learn that Jesus is looking for Zacchaeus.

Jesus seeks you too.

How will you let Jesus find you today?

You might think that Odo would be the patron saint of writers and music, since he was an amazing writer and developed a simple rule of music that would help make religious music easier for the layman.

But he is a patron saint of rain.

Legend tells us that as an archbishop, he became restoration of the Canterbury Cathedral.

And during the three years of repairs, no rains would fall during the hours of their labor.

There’s even a present-day book company my dad loves called Cluny Media.

You can check them out online.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you that you know our names and our hearts, and thank you for loving us.

Help me to love you in all weather, red sunshine, rain, snow, everything.

Saint Odo of Cluny, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya! Thank you!
