Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Monday, November 17th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 18, 35-43, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 18, 42.
And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight, your faith has made you well.
I wanted to share some really fun fun facts with you today.
Did you know a crocodile cannot stick its tongue out, and a shrimp’s heart is in its head?
Also, the Bible was the first book ever printed on the printing press, and the miracle in today’s reading is the last miracle Jesus performs during his life on earth.
So what can we learn from how the blind man called on Jesus?
As soon as Jesus called, he jumped up and went to him.
If we want to receive from God, we should be more like the blind man, full of excitement.
It doesn’t matter to Jesus if we are super smart or perfect, it only matters that we call on him.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.
She was born 1207 and died 1231.
She is a patron saint of the Third Order Franciscans and the country of Hungary.
Elizabeth lived most of her life as a princess.
She grew up in the court of the prince whom she would marry, and she went to church and gave to the poor in Hungary.
She would even walk out of a castle in simple clothing to spend time with the poor.
When a terrible flood affected thousands in her country, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary took royal clothing from the castle to give to people who are left with nothing.
When the king died, Elizabeth married the prince and they were happy together.
Sadly, he died after he had been married for only six years.
When her husband died, Elizabeth chose not to remarry and become a Franciscan lead person.
She dedicated herself to of mercy.
She then died at the age of 23.
When the blind man regained his sight, he was very thankful and immediately began praising God.
What can you thank God for?
God has done amazing things in our lives as well.
Think of one thing that you can thank God for today.
When Saint Elizabeth was banished from the royal castle, she prayed in the Franciscan monastery and asked the friars to sing a hymn of thanksgiving to God for the child she was experiencing.
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary always kept her gaze focused on God.
Even though Saint Elizabeth of Hungary lost her husband and her many possessions, she was rich in Christ because she had God.
She lacked nothing.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear Jesus, thank you that you love me and forgive me when I do wrong things, and that if I call on you, you will listen.
And help me to remember the poor, just as Saint Elizabeth of Hungary did.
Help me to remember that you are all I need.
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
