Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, November 14th, and the gospel reading is Luke 17, 26-37, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 17, 26.

As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be on the days of the Son of Man.

Remember the story of Noah from the Old Testament?

God told him to build an ark big enough for his family and two of every single animal.

They all got inside the ark, doors were shut, and then God flooded the entire earth.

If you weren’t on the ark, you didn’t survive.

Noah even warned them, but they didn’t believe him.

They just kept doing what they were doing until it was too late.

Jesus says when he comes back at the end of time, it’s going to be the same.

Today, we should put all of our trust in him.

Today’s saint of the day is St.

Gertrude the Great.

She was born 1256 and died 1302.

She is the patron saint of devotion to the Sacred Heart.

Gertrude may have been an orphan.

Almost nothing is known about her parents, not even their names.

As a very little girl, she was taken in at a religious school and was cared for by a woman named Mechtild, who loved little Gertrude dearly.

Gertrude did well in school, learning Latin and becoming a skilled writer.

When she turned 25, Gertrude believed in she started having beautiful visions of Jesus in which he taught her many wonderful things.

Later, she would write that before her visions, she was like a blind woman, but Jesus changed everything.

Suddenly, she could see the truth about him and his love for her.

Over the years, Gertrude wrote down everything she learned about Jesus so her knowledge could be shared with everyone.

Jesus says to be ready for when he comes back.

Don’t hold on to your things like your clothes or your toys.

It’s more important to spend time in prayer or focus on Jesus.

Gertrude was very aware of her own imperfections and weakness.

However, she never lost her deep trust and incredible joy in Jesus' love and mercy toward her.

When we are feeling weak or unworthy, Gertrude’s example can help us to refocus on the love of Jesus or perhaps motivate us to do something generous for somebody else.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to give all of ourselves to you and help us not to hold on to things that will keep us from being close to you.

And help me see the truth of you and your love.

St.

Gertrude the Great, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back next week.

Scattering more flowers.

See ya!
