Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, November 6th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 15, 1-10, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 15, 5.
And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. I have this memory of one time when my mom, and me, and my brother, a lot younger, were grocery shopping, and my mom lost her wallet that was attached to her phone case.
She was really worried because she looked everywhere in the car.
She went back to the store, even, and asked them to call if they found it, and it really made her worried.
A little while later, we were playing pretend with our play kitchen, and my brother had my mom’s wallet in his pretend shopping cart.
Can you imagine how my mom felt when she found it?
And I want to know, how in the world did my brother have it? Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Nicholas Tavlik.
He was born 1340 and died 1391.
He’s the patron saint of the Holy Land.
Nicholas was the son of a noble and wealthy family, and his parents gave him a good education, and he learned a lot quickly.
When he had a great future in front of him, he entered the order of Saint Francis.
He actually did his manual labor, studies, and hours of prayer with delight and happiness.
After he was ordained a priest, all were impressed by his sermons.
Due to his ability to learn things quickly, Saint Nicholas was sent as a missionary to Bosnia, a most difficult place to serve.
Saint Nicholas worked with much zeal among the heretics, arguing their false doctrines, repaying insult with blessing, visiting the sick, and comforting the troubled hearts.
He helped many people know of God because of his extreme kindness and charity.
Just like in today’s reading when the woman finds her coin, she calls all her friends and neighbors to celebrate with her.
In the same way, we belong to God.
We are never lost. Nicholas traveled to the Holy Land, the place where Jesus had lived, died, and rose again while he was living on earth.
Nicholas knew that unless the people in the Holy Land believed in Jesus and professed that he is God, they would be lost.
So out of love for those people who did not believe, Nicholas spoke the truth plainly.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for being our family and for loving us so much that we are never lost.
We belong to you.
And thank you for giving us the hope of heaven for those who believe in you.
Help me to tell others about you.
Saint Nicholas Tavlik, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
