Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, October 28th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 6, 12 through 16, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 6, 13.

He called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles.

One of my brother’s favorite superheroes is Batman.

He likes him because he doesn’t really have a superpower.

He just uses his smarts and his lot of geeky gadgets and cool cars he drives around.

But do you know how the police commander calls Batman for help?

With the Bat-Signal! It’s letting him know that the city needs his help.

Just like Jesus called the disciples in today’s reading, Jesus also wants us to follow him.

He wants us to be a part of saving the world by sharing the good news with those who might not know about it.

Today’s Saint of the Day, Saint Simon and Jude Apostles.

They were born in the first century, and their death is unknown.

Jude is the patron saint of desperate situations and hopeless cases, and Simon is the patron saint of tanners.

The Gospels mention Simon and Jude together in the lists of the apostles.

Jude, son of James, is also called Thaddeus, and Simon is also known as a zealot.

Not much else is known about the lives of Simon and Jude, but we do know the most important event of their lives.

Jesus called them to be his apostles.

Somehow, Simon and Jude went to hear Jesus speak, met him, and their hearts began to burn with a fire.

At the Last Supper, Jude had asked Jesus, Lord, how is it that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?

In going forth to preach, both Simon and Jude understood that the Lord was asking them to be his voice so that he would be revealed not just to them, but to the whole world.

Tradition holds that they gave their lives in martyrism, witnessing to Jesus even with their blood.

Jude, known as the Saint of the Impossible, has become a favorite saint of many people today.

Jesus wants you to be his disciples and share the good news of his love.

You don’t have to be a superhero like Batman with all his gadgets.

You just need to be willing to share God’s love.

Jesus picked you at your baptism.

How can you be a disciple to show Jesus' love today?

Simon and Jude were among the disciples who lived and prayed together after Jesus returned to heaven.

Jesus had chosen his followers carefully, but he chose some pretty unlikely people.

Simon and Jude devoted themselves to Jesus and his kingdom.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for calling us to follow you and help us to be your light.

And help me to be devoted to your kingdom too.

Saint Simon and Jude, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya! Thank you for watching.
