429. Wednesday, October 22, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Wednesday, October 22nd, and the Gospel reading is Luke 12, 39-48, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 12, 43.

Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.

One of my brother and my favorite cartoons that makes us laugh out loud is about a dog that is going rabbit hunting.

His master tells him that he better get a good night’s sleep so that he’s ready to go hunting the next morning.

The rabbit overhears this conversation and works all night trying to keep the dog up, whether it’s flashing the lights, creating thunderstorm sounds, or setting firecrackers off.

So when the next morning comes, the dog is so tired, he can’t get out of bed to go rabbit hunting with his master.

He ends up going to the rabbit’s den and falling asleep with the prey he was supposed to catch.

Today’s Saint of the Day is St.

John Paul II.

He was born May 18, 1920, and died April 2, 2005.

He is a patron saint of World Youth Day.

During World War II, St.

John Paul, then known as Carol, entered seminary in German-occupied Krakow.

He was ordained November 1, 1946, and then went to study in Rome.

He was a poet and playwright and acted in an underground theater.

St.

John Paul moved up to bishop, then archbishop of Krakow, and then cardinal.

He was chosen as the first non-Italian pope in 455 years.

He wrote many apostolic letters and writings and was known for his kindness and belief in marriage and family.

When I watched this cartoon, it made me think of this reading today.

We have to be ready for Jesus' coming.

Only three years into John Paul II’s time as pope, an assassin shot him in St.

Peter’s Square in Rome.

He was rushed to the hospital.

He forgave his attacker and lived, sharing an example of true forgiveness with the church and with the world.

He also started World Youth Day to encourage the youth to be bold in their faith.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for being with us.

Help me to remember to be ready and watchful.

And help me to set an example of love in the world, just as St.

Paul II did.

St.

John Paul II, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
