Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, October 10th, and the gospel reading is Luke 11, 15-23, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 11, 23.

He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. My family is a big family of prayer.

We pray together separately when we are upset or even when we are joyful, but let me be totally honest with you.

Sometimes I forget to start the day with prayer.

It’s sometimes easy to forget because I overslept or I got distracted or I’m a little tired that day.

Since I’m homeschooled, my mom, who is also my teacher, on those days can sometimes notice.

She will say, did you pray today?

You are kind of grumpy.

Did you read your Bible?

She also will say that praying is helping me fight against whatever the devil throws at me for that day. Today’s saint of the day, Saint John XXIII.

He was born November 1881 and died in June of 1963.

He’s a patron saint of Christian unity. Known as Good Pope John, Saint John XXIII made him special to the world.

He was born into a poor family of sharecroppers in northern Italy.

He was ordained as a priest in 1904 and taught church history in the seminary.

When Italy entered World War I in 1915, he was drafted into the Italian army until the war ended.

In 1925, he became a bishop and in 1944 for the World War II, he helped Jewish refugees.

Why Saint John XXIII was elected Pope in 1958 when he was 77 years old.

Even though he was a bit on the older side, he had a ton of energy.

He shocked everybody by calling an ecumenical council and made major changes in the church.

This Pope said he felt called by the Holy Spirit to summon Vatican II. God always wants us to help with things.

He is waiting to listen to our prayers and petitions.

He loves us that much.

Praying each morning, day, night, and whenever really does make a difference. Pope John XXIII always sought to discern God’s will and follow him throughout his life.

He said when you obey, you feel peace and obedience to your Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit helped Pope John XXIII develop Christ-like love for everyone.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for protecting me from the evil one and thank you that you’re so easy to come to for prayers and petitions.

And thank you for showing us how to love people like you do.

Help us to do what is good always.

Saint John XXIII, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back next week.

Scatter you more flowers.

See ya!
