Hello everyone.
Heyo.
Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started.
Today is Tuesday, October 8th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 10, 38 through 42, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 10, 42.
One thing is needful.
Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.
One of my mom’s favorite hobbies is cooking.
She loves to cook and make fresh things for people to enjoy.
She’s always trying new recipes and getting fresh ingredients to cook with.
However, we have a nice house and a nice kitchen with things my mom likes to use.
Did you know back in Jesus' time, kitchens were outside in the courtyard?
They didn’t have fancy appliances like stoves, ovens, or a refrigerator.
They had to grind flour by hand, bake bread fresh, and eat their vegetables picked fresh from a garden, and keep a close eye on things they had set on the fire to cook or bake.
It is easy to see how Martha must have gotten caught up in the preparations, but then she began to get mad at all the work that she was doing.
Preparing food was not a bad thing to do.
Jesus does not tell her that she should have been with Mary listening to him.
Mary had probably been helping in the preparations at some point, but she made a choice to come and listen to Jesus speak.
Choosing to listen to Jesus is always a good choice.
Today is the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Did you know the whole month of October is the month of the Rosary?
The word Rosary means crown of roses.
Every time people say the Rosary, they place a crown of roses upon the heads of Jesus and Mary.
Being heavenly flowers, their roses will never fade or lose their beauty.
In 1214, Our Lady appeared to Saint Dominic and gave him the Rosary as we know it today.
The Rosary is a sign of hope.
Pope Pius V declared October 7th to be the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary in 1573.
There are four mysteries in the Rosary, the joyful, sorrowful, luminous, and glorious mysteries.
Through praying the Rosary, we contemplate the mysteries and events in the lives of Jesus and Mary and unite ourselves more closely to them.
The Rosary becomes more simple to remember the more we recite it.
You should try to remember, you should try and get in the habit of doing it too.
I know me and my family do it and so can yours.
We need to remember that God is most important things in our life.
We shouldn’t let others be so busy.
We can’t remember to take the time for who is most important to us.
God created us to spend time with him.
Mother Teresa always carried a Rosary in her hand.
In this way, she said she was holding Mary’s hand.
Use the month of October as a time to draw close to our blessed mother by praying the Rosary.
She loves it when we draw near to her.
Let’s pray a Hail Mary together.
Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
