Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, October 6th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 10, 25-47, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 10, 29. But he desiring to justify himself said to Jesus, and who is my neighbor? I’m going to read some ideas that might be ways to love your neighbor.

You can write down, agree or disagree, or even put your thumb up or down. What do you think?

We don’t need to help people if we’re watching our favorite TV show. Thumbs up or thumbs down?

We should be extra nice to kids at school who have trouble making friends.

Agree or disagree?

We should obey our parents right away. We should want to help someone right away, be kind to others, and do things when we’re asked, not when it’s convenient or easy. Today’s Saint of the Day is Blessed Marie Rose.

She was born in 1811 and died in 1849.

She is the patron saint of the sick. Blessed Marie Rose was born in Quebec in 1811 to wealthy farmers.

She had ten siblings.

Two of her brothers became priests and one of her sisters joined the community of sisters.

She too wanted to join but was too sick and was sent home. When her mother died, she became a big help around the house with the cooking and cleaning and eventually helped her brother at his local parish with secretary work. Her hard work was noticed by the bishop and he asked her to found a new religious order for sisters to provide education.

This became known as the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Over the course of five years, the order added five convents for 30 sisters who taught nearly 450 children in both English and French. She was never fully well and died at a young age of 38 because of Blessed Marie Rose, one thousand sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, educate children in Canada, the United States, Africa, and South America. Neighbor doesn’t just mean those close to us, but to all of God’s people.

All of God’s people need love and attention.

Jesus wants us to love everyone.

He even wants us to love people who are different from us and who disagree with us. Just like Blessed Marie Rose and the Samaritan in the Gospel, we can make our faith stronger.

Even if something makes us upset or confused, we should remember to trust in God and always have hope. Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to be loving to others and you always and to depend on you when things are not easy.

And help us to always trust in you because you guide us in our lives.

Blessed Marie Rose, pray for us.

Amen. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
