Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the Daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, October 2nd, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 18, 1-5 and verse 10, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 18, 10.
For I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.
Today is the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels.
The cool thing for me is that I just had a whole school lesson on angels in my catechism study that we do for homeschool lesson.
I’m going to share some facts we learned.
Angels are created spirits without bodies.
They have understanding and free will.
A lot of times we see pictures with them or draw heads or bodies with wings.
They are spirits with no bodies.
When God created the angels, he gave them great wisdom, power, and holiness.
They are brilliant and don’t need to study, unlike us.
We need to study because our mind is limited.
Angels help us by praying for us, by acting as messengers from God to us, and by serving as our guardian angels.
They protect us from harm and inspire us to do good.
Today is the Feast Day of the Holy Guardian Angels.
The Feast Day of the Guardian Angels was first celebrated in the 16th century.
Angels are mentioned throughout scripture.
Most of us recognized the archangel Gabriel, who appears to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Incarnation.
We talked about Raphael and Saint Michael the other day too.
There are stories of saints that have also been called on their guardian angels as great intercessors in their lives.
Saint Josmaria, Padre Pio, and Saint John Vianney all frequently called upon their guardian angels in different times of need.
Your guardian angel is someone you can call too.
You can ask your guardian angel to help when you are in trouble with another person.
When you pray, you can ask your guardian angel to handle the situation with the other person’s guardian angel and let the angels take care of it.
This is a great plan when you might be arguing or fighting with a brother, sister, or friend.
Jesus reminds us that angels aren’t like us.
God created them as spiritual beings.
Your guardian angel can be with you, guiding you towards what God wants for you and in God’s presence at the same time.
Nothing is impossible for God.
Since the day we were born, God gave us a special angel known as our guardian angel to be our lifelong friend.
Our guardian angels watch over us, pray for us, intercede us, and guide us along the way.
We should pray often to our guardian angels and speak to them as if we were speaking to a friend here on earth.
Let’s pray the guardian angel prayer together.
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule, and to guide.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow.
Scatter more flowers.
See ya!
