Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, September 25th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 9, 18-22, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 9, 20. And he said to them, Who do you say I am?

And Peter answered, The Christ of God. Has your family ever gotten to bring up the gifts as a presentation of the gifts for Mass?

My family has gotten asked by ushers a few times.

It makes me feel excited and sometimes I also get nervous.

What if I trip?

What if I drop the hosts?

I haven’t yet. I usually feel honored and proud to get to carry the gifts with my family.

Then Jesus explained to everyone what it means to follow him.

He said that anyone who wanted to follow him must be ready to give up their own way of living and carry their cross every day.

This means choosing God’s way, even when it is hard.

Jesus reminded them that a person can have many things in the world, but still lose what matters most, their lives with God.

Jesus is the Savior sent by God.

Sometimes following Jesus is not always easy, but it leads to true life with God forever. Today’s Saints of the Day are Saints Cosmos and Damian.

They lived in the 3rd century.

They are the patron saint of doctors, surgeons, and pharmacists.

St.

Cosmos and Damian were twins born to Christian parents in Arabia in the 3rd century.

They lived in the region along the border between Turkey and Syria.

They were doctors who were very good at what they did, and they refused to charge for their services.

Their charity and Christian witness made many convert to the Catholic faith in the 3rd century when the Roman Empire began to persecute Christians, saying Cosmos and Damian were some of the first to be picked for execution.

In 287, they were captured and ordered to deny their faith in Christ.

They refused and they were tortured.

They were crucified and miraculously they remained unharmed.

The torturers began getting realized that it was impossible to force them to deny Christ and they finally beheaded them both.

When God asks us to serve him, I think it’s okay to sometimes feel nervous or scared, but we can remember that God is always with us, leading us in the right direction.

He will always make sure we make it.

Even though St.

Cosmos and Damian were tortured and eventually martyred, they had amazing trust in God.

Their example helps us realize that we can find ways to be generous with our time, talents, and treasure.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, please show me how to serve you with my whole heart.

And help me to remember to give my time, talents, and things with a grateful heart.

St.

Damian and Cosmos, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
