Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, September 25th, and the Gospel reading is Luke 9, 7-9, and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 9, 9. Herod said, John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?

And he sought to see him. I would hate to be named Herod.

That name just has bad taste to it.

First we hear about King Herod when Jesus was born.

He was the one who wanted to kill all the baby boys.

And now we hear about the story of the next King Herod who beheaded John the Baptist.

Imagine if that was you.

You killed John the Baptist and now you are hearing stories of a certain man who is doing miracles.

You might be scared that John the Baptist had come back from the dead.

Or would you want to go meet him because you wanted to know if it was really him? Today’s Saints of the Day are Saints Louis and Zellie Martin.

They were born 1823 and 1831.

They are the patron saints of marriage and parents.

Saints Louis and Zellie were the parents of Therese of Lisher.

Louis was a watchmaker and Zellie was a lacemaker and both of them weren’t accepting into religious life.

But they knew that God had a different plan for their lives.

Stories say one day Zellie was crossing a bridge and passed a handsome man.

And she heard a voice inside her say, this is he whom I have been preparing for you.

Zellie stopped the man to ask who he was and discovered that it was none other than Louis Martin.

And Louis was going to stop Zellie to ask who she was.

And they got married and had a family as a married couple.

Louis and Zellie were both devoted to a faith and taught their nine children about Jesus.

And five of their children became nuns including Saint Therese.

They loved their children so much that Saint Zellie wrote, we lived only for them.

They were all our happiness.

Saint Zellie died when she was 45 and Saint Louis died when he was 70.

Louis and Zellie Martin are the first spouses in the history of the Catholic Church to be canonized as a couple.

Today’s gospel is important because we think it’s saying that it’s important that people wonder who we are.

Because we are trying to live good values out as being a Christian to make people curious to want to know more about who Jesus is.

Throughout their lives both Louis and Zellie trusted in God even when it was hard.

They are role models for holiness and married life.

While their lives may not be as exciting as some other saints, they have a great story of faithfulness to God and ordinary circumstances.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to live my life out in good ways so that people will see Jesus in me.

And help us to always trust in your plans even if I don’t make them.

Saints Louis and Zellie Martin pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
