Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, September 15th, and the gospel reading is John 19, 25-27, and the scripture to reflect on is John 19, 25.

So the soldiers did this, but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Do you know the saying from Lion King, Hakuna Matata?

It means no worries for the rest of your days, a problem-free philosophy.

In today’s reading of Jesus and the Blessed Mother in John made me think of this song.

It’s the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows.

We know that Mary had many sorrows.

She probably didn’t know that things would be okay, but today in heaven for us.

She knows what the future holds.

When she was living on earth, she didn’t have that gift.

She walked in faith and trust in God had promised to always answer our prayers.

What’s true for us and also to hear from Mary?

She was told that Jesus, her son, would be the Messiah, but she watched him be beaten and hung on a cross, yet she still had courage and trust.

Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows.

These are the seven sorrows that Mary had to go through during her life on earth.

Prophecy of Simon, the flight to Egypt, loss of Jesus in the temple, Mary meets Jesus on the road to Calvary, Jesus dies on the cross, Mary receives the body of Jesus, Jesus is placed in the tomb.

It’s a day to remember Mary’s life wasn’t easy even through she was sad and afraid for her son.

Mary still stood by the cross with Jesus.

She followed Jesus' example and didn’t get angry at the people who were so mean to him.

Don’t feel sorry for Mary.

Instead, today, remember when we are sad or sacred, we can talk to our Blessed Mother about anything.

Mary loves and understands us.

So next time you think about the song Hakuna Matata, think about God’s generous love for us.

He promises us future problem-free life with faith in Jesus.

Our Lady of Sorrows is a good reminder that Mary didn’t have original sin, but she did have suffering.

The greatest saints have had sorrows.

Our life on this earth will someday be traded for eternal happiness with God in heaven.

The seven sorrows of Mary are seven sad events that occurred in the life of Our Lady and are recorded in the Bible.

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary overlap some with the seven sorrows, but not all.

Mary told St.

Bridget that seven graces will be granted to those who say seven Hail Marys each day.

Reflecting on her seven sorrows, can you challenge yourself to pray the rosary more often?

Let’s pray a Hail Mary together.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
