Hello, everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, September 8th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 1, 1-16, and verses 18-23.

And the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 1, 18.

Now, the birth of Jesus took place in this way, when his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph.

Before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit.

Take this little quiz with me.

Could Jesus be human if he did not have any human parents?

No.

Could Jesus be human if he had a human mother and father?

Yes.

Could Jesus be God if he had both a human mother and father?

No.

Could Jesus be God if he was born of the Holy Spirit?

Yes.

Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit and of Mary, so he is both really God and really human.

Maybe today, take some time on your own to explain to someone in your family how you know Jesus is both 100% God and 100% human.

Today is the feast day of Blessed Mother’s Nativity, Mother Mary’s birthday! Hooray! This feast day is celebrated on September 8th.

The feast on this date has been celebrated since the 6th century, with origins from Syria and Palestine.

Mary brought Jesus into the world.

While Mary was on earth, she loved helping others and giving the gift of herself.

Spending time helping others on Mary’s birthday can be an excellent gift.

We could also use this day to give ourselves to Mary.

She loves us more than we can imagine! If we listen, God will tell us to do what He to do.

He probably won’t speak to us through an angel, but He can speak to us through the Bible.

It is up to us to listen, follow, and obey.

The rosary is one of the greatest prayers in history of the Church, and it’s a beautiful way to dwell on the lives of Jesus and Mary.

Mother Teresa said that praying the rosary was just like holding Mary’s hand.

And what better way to show Mary we love her than praying the rosary and holding her hand on her birthday! Join us in praying a Hail Mary.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Happy birthday, Blessed Mother! Happy birthday, Blessed Mother! Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya! Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
