393. Tuesday, September 2, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, September 2nd and the Gospel reading is Luke 4 31-37 and the scripture to reflect on is Luke 4 36.

And they were all amazed and said to one another, what is this word?

For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits and they come out.

When I was reading through the scriptures today, I realized that the reading for the Psalms fit in so well with the reading from the Gospel.

In the Gospel, the people were amazed at the authority and power when Jesus commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man and the reading from the Psalms talks about how God is our light and our salvation and who shall we fear and who shall we be afraid of.

In Psalm 27, we read how he asked God to rescue from the enemies that surround him.

He knows that God alone is the one who will rescue.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Solomon Leclerc.

He was born November 14th, 1745 and died in the year 1792.

He is a patron saint of teachers.

Nicholas Leclerc entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Rome, France and took the name Solomon.

Founded by Saint John the Baptist, D.

LaSalle, the brothers were dedicated to teaching.

Solomon threw himself wholeheartedly into this work.

Besides teaching, he was put in charge of the foundation of the novices and helped with other bookkeeping tasks.

During the French Revolution, clergy and religious order had to sign a paper to give control of revolutionaries over the church.

Along with many others, Solomon refused to sign it.

The brothers soon lost their schools and legal status and Solomon was forced to live in Haiti.

On August 15th, 1794, he was arrested and sent to Carmelite convent that had been turned into prison.

On September 2nd, he had many others were killed.

On October 16th, 2016, Pope Francis canonized Brother Solomon.

Jesus died on the cross to rescue us from the outcome of death.

There are bad things in the world that distract us or make us not keep our eyes on the light, but we can pray for God’s mercy and help.

Saint Solomon’s mother used to read him and his brothers and sisters some story of lives of saints.

This was very significant for Brother Solomon, who was entailed very early to piety.

However, it is said that one day he told his mom when he was still young and probably realizing the nature and the sufferings endured by those he was learning about, Mother, I don’t want to become a saint.

He would still go on to be martyrs of Jesus.

Kind of fun to see how he was used by Jesus to be a saint by doing good things and teaching others.

Let’s pray in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for being our light and for our salvation and for always leading us to.

Help me to live and to be like and willing to teach others about you.

Solomon the clerk, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow.

Scattering more flowers.

See ya!
