Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, August 21st, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 22, 1-14, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 22, 14.
For many are called, but few are chosen.
I am so excited! At the end of the month, we are going to our friend’s wedding.
I can’t wait to watch the bride in her pretty dress, and I can’t wait to see what color the bridesmaids will be wearing.
And the reception is going to be fun too, with the music, good food, and maybe even dancing.
I have a new dress I’m wearing too.
It’s going to be so fun.
There’s probably going to be a lot of people in nice clothes enjoying the party, like me.
What if there was one person who came in their stinky gym clothes, or someone with a bunch of holes in their shirt?
They probably would stand out like a sore thumb.
Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like a big wedding party.
He also says we are all invited, and that we should be ready when we get our invitation.
We need to be sure to change our clothes to be fancy.
You will be excluded if you do not change your lies.
God wants you to put on new clothes and stop wearing the old clothes of sin and unrighteousness.
Today’s saint of the day is St.
Pius X.
He was born June 2, 1835 and died August 21, 1914.
He’s the patron saint of first communicants and immigrants.
St.
Pius X was born second of ten children.
His father was a poor parish clerk in Ries, Italy, and his mother worked as a samaritanist.
At 11, Pius then named Ginesepe, which was accepted as a student in high school.
Every day he walked five miles to school and back.
At 15, he began attending the local seminary.
When his father died, Ginesepe wanted to come home and help with the family.
His mother, however, would not let him.
In 1858, he was ordained and then worked as a parish priest for 17 years.
He believed his call was to encourage those who were poor and led to Christian lives and to help them overcome financial problems.
He was the spiritual director of a major seminary and chancellor of the disease.
Later, he became a bishop and then a cardinal.
In 1903, he was elected to become Pope Pius X.
He took as his motto, restore all things to Christ.
He emphasized the importance of the Eucharist and changed the children as young as seven to be allowed to receive the Eucharist instead of 12 years old.
Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like a big wedding party.
He also says we are all invited and that we should be ready when we get our invitation.
We need to make sure we change our clothes to be fancy.
You will be excluded if you don’t change their lives.
God wants you to put on new clothes and stop wearing the clothes of sin and unrighteousness.
St.
Pius X is known as the Pope of the Blessed Sacrament for his efforts to make the Eucharist more accessible, encouraging daily communion.
Can we be better at trying to get to daily Mass?
It’s sometimes not easy, but we can even start little by going more than just to Sunday Mass, don’t you think?
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to be ready for any time that you call us and to ask for forgiveness so we don’t wear our dirty clothes to the wedding.
And help us to receive Holy Communion even if we are a little young.
St.
Pius X, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
