Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started.

Today is Tuesday, August 19th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 19, 23-30, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 19, 23.

And Jesus said to the disciples, Truly I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Today’s parable was to teach the disciples that God doesn’t treat those that have worked longer better than those who have started later.

He sees them as equally as important.

He wants them to know that each person who works in his kingdom will be rewarded in the way God chooses.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint John Eude.

He was born in the year 1601 and died August 19, 1680.

He is the patron saint of seminarians.

John Eude became a priest at a young age and entered the order founded by Saint Philip Neri.

For many years, Saint John selflessly dedicated himself for helping people struck by the plague.

He also began preaching in rural France and helped people convert back to the Catholic faith.

Saint John Eude founded the congregation of Jesus and Mary in order that trained priests to carry out his mission for preaching to other orders who founded for helping girls and troubled women under the ministry of Saint John Eude.

Our salvation is a gift from God, and we did nothing to earn it.

The same is true for us.

Serving God as a gift.

And we should serve him not thinking that we are more important than someone else.

Each person’s work is valuable to God.

Saint John Eude shows how important Christian life is to be in union with Jesus.

He had devotion to the sacred heart of Jesus as well as the heart of Mary.

By preaching about the great love of Jesus, John Eude was able to move people’s hearts.

He showed them how important it is to helping others connect with Jesus' great love for them.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for always taking care of me and the things that I need and for loving me no matter what.

And help me to be a witness of your love of the sacred heart of Jesus.

Saint John Eude, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
