Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday August 7th and the gospel reading is Matthew 16 13 through 23 and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 16 15.
He said to them, but who do you say that I am?
Today’s reading made me think of the board game Guess Who.
Have you ever played this game?
Each player chooses a mystery character, then using yes or no questions, they try to figure out the other player’s mystery character.
When they think they know who the other opponent’s mystery character is, players make a guess.
If the guess is wrong, the player loses.
Jesus asked his disciples who they thought he was and confirmed that he was the long-awaited Messiah.
What would you tell someone who asked you who Jesus is?
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Cuhiton.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Cuhiton.
He was born in the year 1480 and died in the year 1547.
He is the patron saint of the unemployed.
Saint Cuhiton was a very smart man and received his degree in civil and canon law by the age of 24.
He served as a diplomat under Pope Julius II, but registered after the death of the Pope to study the priesthood.
Saint Cuhiton was ordained in 1516, just one year before Martin Luther launched the Protestant Reformation.
He worked in hospitals in the hometown and saw the great need for renewal in the church.
He was very committed to preaching, helping the sick, giving the sacraments, and renewing the life of clergy.
He had personal holiness and commitment to clerical holiness and was a light in the time of darkness and confusion.
We, of course, know who Jesus is and what he did.
He is the fulfillment of God’s promises to us, the Son of God and God himself.
We can have full faith in that and want to tell other people about him too.
Saint Cuhiton dedicated himself to serving the people of God and renewing the priesthood.
The church always needs people who put holiness first and provide good examples to others.
We can be a witness of pure and loving relationship with God.
It’s the most powerful thing you could ever know.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to live our faith and have courage to share it with others.
And help me to be more powerful witness by living out what I believe in which is you.
Saint Cuhiton, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
