Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Wednesday, July 30th, and the gospel reading is Matthew 13, 44 through 46, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 13, 44.
The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up.
Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has to buy that field.
Is there something you really want?
Like something you are thinking of putting on your birthday list or Christmas list?
Is there something you’ve been saving up to get when you have enough money saved?
Would you be willing to sell all your clothes, all your toys, your cars, your food, and even your house to get any of those things?
I don’t think so.
Nothing in life is worth selling.
All your stuff in exchange for what?
The parable is saying the kingdom of heaven is worth everything we have and more.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Peter Chrysologus.
He was born in 380 and died in 450.
He is a patron saint of preachers.
Saint Peter was called Chrysologus because it means golden word and he was a wonderful preacher.
Saint Peter was a convert to the Catholic faith and ordained as a deacon.
He later became the bishop of a country in Italy.
Saint Peter was a born leader and led people to help fight temptation.
He made deep relationships with noble people, including an empress, other bishops, and Pope Saint Leo the Great.
Peter’s preaching was short and well-focused.
He made people would listen better to shorter families and make a point well instead of long-winded preaching.
Saint Peter Chrysologus was made a doctor of the church in 1729 and became known as the doctor of homilies.
He often preached about the word of God, Jesus Christ, and his divinity behind the human flesh.
We can learn about Saint Peter Chrysologus even sometimes we may not understand what a homily will be about if we play.
We can listen to God speaking to our heart.
We don’t need cash to get into heaven.
We just need to be freed from our sins by believing that God died for our sins.
Jesus can save people and that the kingdom of heaven is worth more than anything we could ever want.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to show your love to others by telling them that Jesus loves them.
And help us to keep our eyes and hearts open to see Jesus in each person we meet.
Saint Peter Chrysologus, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
