Hello everyone.

Heyo.

Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started.

Today is Tuesday, July 22nd, and the gospel reading is John 20, 1 through 2, and 11 through 18.

And the scripture to reflect on is John 21.

Now, on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away.

Do you think you are a good friend?

If you asked your closest friend what their favorite thing about you, what would they say?

I hope my friends would say that I’m honest, kind, and loyal.

I like to be these things to my friends.

Mary Magdalene was the best kind of friend to have.

We can learn from her.

She followed Jesus through thick and thin.

She helped him and followed him through his ministry.

When Jesus suffered on the cross, she didn’t even run away.

Today’s saint of the day, Saint Mary Magdalene.

She was alive during the first century.

She’s a patron saint of converts, women, and hairdressers.

Mary Magdalene was from the town of Magdala, which is located on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Jesus cast seven demons out of Mary Magdalene, bringing her into public ministry life.

When most of the disciples ran away in fear, Mary Magdalene stayed at the foot of the cross with John and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

She also went to the tomb on Easter Sunday and found it was empty as the first witness to the resurrection.

God trusted her with the task, but announcing news of the risen Lord, the rest of the disciples according to tradition.

Mary Magdalene was in the upper room of Pentecost.

She traveled with Mother Mary and John the Beloved, where she died and was buried in Ephesus.

However, some people say she died in France after spending many years in prayer and solitude.

After Jesus was placed in the tomb, Mary got up extra early to visit his tomb.

What do you think she thought when she saw the tomb empty?

But risen Jesus appeared to her, calling her by name.

That’s a reward itself for being a true and faithful friend.

I can’t wait to hear Jesus say my name out loud someday.

Mary Magdalene is an important role because of her being the first witness to Jesus' resurrection.

She’s often called the apostles to the apostles.

Each member of the church has a different role, but we all share an important responsibility of spreading the gospel.

How do you take time to listen to God calling you to spread the gospel?

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help me to be a good friend and help me to continue to try to be kind, loyal, and honest.

I hope to be to my friends.

And help me to be a good witness of your truth with joy and love of God in my life.

Saint Mary Magdalene, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
