Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, July 15th, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 11, 20-24, and the scripture to reflect on is Psalm 29, 34.
Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves therein.
Today I decided to focus on the psalms of the day because I really enjoyed what the psalm said.
Did you know the book of Psalms was written, songs, hymns, and poems that David wrote?
Some psalms focus on praising and worshiping God.
Others cry out over the pain of life.
Some psalms look forward to the coming of Jesus.
David writes about his worship to God, knowing the Lord cares for those who are persecuted.
He wants all praise to be given to God, even the parts we don’t think about, like rocks and seas.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Bonaventure.
He lived in the year 1221 through July 15, 1274.
He is the patron saint of those with bold discorders.
Saint Bonaventure had an intense love for God.
He studied in Paris as a young man and joined the Franciscan Order in 1243.
He was very smart and became the master of theology at the University of Paris.
He was classmates with Thomas Aquinas.
Jesus was the center of everything, his teaching, his admiration, his writing, and his life.
He became the minister general of the Franciscans and stayed in that position for 17 years.
Saint Bonaventure helped organize and renew the Franciscan Order.
Saint Bonaventure carefully guided the friars to connect understanding of Saint Francis and his vision for the church.
In 1273, Saint Bonaventure was made bishop and a cardinal.
He was washing dishes when a papal legate came to bring him the red hat, so he asked them to hang it on a nearby bush.
He died suddenly when attending to the Second Council of Lions.
I think it’s beautiful that all the creation to praise God.
David invites not only people, but also the whole earth, the heavens, the seas, and everything within them to join in worship.
This verse reminds us that God’s glory is so great that all creation is invited to honor him.
Saint Bonaventure had great wisdom through a deep love of God and recognizing God’s presence in all of creation.
He believed that God’s presence is reflected for all of creation and studying the beauty of the world can lead us to greater understanding of God.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us every day to wake up and see the beauty in the world that you have created, to easily praise you for your mighty works.
And help us to be more like Saint Bonaventure in realizing that the beauty around us makes us want to praise you.
Saint Bonaventure, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
